This butterfly is very common in Sri Lanka and very similar to the Monarch butterfly, those famous travelers, from America. They usually rest with their wings closed and it took a lot of patience to get this moment when this opened his wings for a split second!
Just grabbed some fruit, dumped them on a bowl and took some shots. I liked the bit of harsh highlights here – think it adds to the picture.
This was shot during our trip to the Isle of Wight. Spent an hour in the freezing cold and biting wind trying to get some sunset landscape shots. Used a ND8 and soft GND4 filters to balance exposure.
